Research and development plays a significant role in increasing our competitiveness and expanding our business through the development of innovative processes and products as well as the ongoing optimization of existing production processes.
The central Process Engineering unit of our Production, Technology, Safety & Environment Group Function (GF PTSE) is working hand in hand with our business units to develop process innovations. We direct our efforts towards developing new processes, integrating new technologies into existing production processes and conducting efficiency projects to achieve cost and technology leadership. All aspects of development, optimization and implementation of novel and improved production process concepts are covered by the various process engineering experts of the Group Function PTSE. We ensure that potential synergies between business units are exploited to the full and that all businesses profit from the technological know-how provided by the Group Function PTSE. Furthermore, we support the implementation of innovative solutions in production plants until successful start-up.
Our research and development activities are closely allied to the needs of the market and our customers. Each business unit therefore has its own development capacities. In addition, our central R&D unit of the Group Function PTSE supports the business units with chemical expertise as well as central facilities for experimental investigations on laboratory and pilot plant scale. Our common goal is the successful execution of research and development projects from the first idea to the finished product. In addition to the development of new products we also focus on new applications for existing products as well as on product modifications.
Essential for the success of our research and development activities is the access to expert know-how in product and process development. Therefore, we established an innovation network with external partners through the establishment of alliances with universities, institutes and leading companies in various chemical and technological fields.
