LANXESS Year of High-Tech Plastics

LANXESS dedicates 2011 to a very special material

On January 13, 2011, with the launch ceremony of a new plastic plant for the Semi-Crystalline Products business unit, for the compounding of the high-tech plastics durethan (polyamide) and pocan (polybutylenterephthalate) in the Indian city of Jhagadia, LANXESS marked the start of the “LANXESS Year of High-Tech Plastics”.  The company is hereby acknowledging the important role of a material, which essentially makes possible many of the comforts of modern life. Dr. Michael Zobel, Head of the Semi-Crystalline Products business unit, provides a succinct example: “LANXESS’ high-tech plastics not only support the trend towards greater mobility but also make cars safer and reduce fuel consumption due to their outstanding properties.”

Within the context of their theme for the year, LANXESS will initiate a range of events as well as taking part in trade fairs and exhibitions, which will inform members of all interest groups – beginning with customers, to political representatives and journalists, to LANXESS employees worldwide – as to where LANXESS high-tech plastics are used, what advantages they offer and what contribution they make, first and foremost to sustainable and environmentally friendly development.

With the “LANXESS Year of High-Tech Plastics” the specialty chemicals group is establishing a successful tradition. For instance, at the centenary anniversary of the invention of synthetic rubber in 2009, the focus was drawn towards elastomeric materials. And 2010 was the “Year of Water”, whereby LANXESS dedicated the year to the ever-more scarce resource that is water.
