Dr. Bernhard Düttmann was born in Düsseldorf in 1959. He studied business administration at the University of Cologne, where he also obtained his Ph.D. Between 1986 and 1988, he worked as an assistant at the Institute for Industrial Management at the University of Hamburg.

Düttmann joined Beiersdorf AG in Hamburg, Germany, in 1989, and worked in Controlling Affiliates until 1991. He then held positions as Regional Sales Manager and International Product Manager in the tesa Consumer Division. Between the end of 1994 and April 1999, Düttmann was Vice President Finance & Controlling at the Beiersdorf affiliate Four Pillars-Beiersdorf Pte. Ltd., Singapore. On his return to Germany, he became Vice President Controlling for the global tesa business.

In March 2001, Düttmann was appointed Chief Financial Officer of the Beiersdorf affiliate tesa AG. Four years later, he was additionally named Executive Vice President of the company’s Business Unit Consumer. Düttmann’s appointment to the Executive Board of Beiersdorf AG followed in September 2006. There he was responsible for Finance and for the company’s business in Latin America. Düttmann was latterly the Executive Board Member responsible for Finance/Human Resources and held regional responsibility for the Middle East, Africa and Turkey.

Bernhard Düttmann was appointed by the Supervisory Board of
LANXESS AG on February 3, 2011, to become Chief Financial Officer
of the Leverkusen-based specialty chemicals company effective
April 1, 2011.
