LANXESS India is working with the Save the Children India (STCI) charity in Mumbai. In summer 2009, a joint project was initiated to improve the education opportunities for underprivileged children. LANXESS donated around 400,000 rupees (approximately 8,000 US dollars) to pay for training at five pre-school institutions run by STCI. Known as balwadis, these establishments prepare children for going to school.

In addition to financial support, LANXESS’s assistance also includes expert know-how. The specialty chemicals company is providing schools with water treatment systems to ensure that schoolchildren have a regular supply of drinking water. As Dr. Joerg Strassburger, Managing Director and country head of LANXESS India, explains: “Our alliance with Save the Children India is aimed at encouraging poor children to fight for a better future – for themselves and their families.” STCI was founded in 1988 and primarily focuses on health, education and vocational training programs for disadvantaged children and women.
