Plastics are increasingly replacing metals – and not just because they can bring significant weight savings. Another important advantage is that a much larger number of functions can be integrated into a plastics component than into a metal one. Furthermore, the demands made on the surface quality of the parts are mounting because producers want to avoid cost-intensive post-processing stages such as the application of a coating wherever they can.
High-modulus grades of Durethan® and Pocan® achieve similar values to diecast materials and are therefore ideal for replacing metals, especially in structural sections subjected to very high stresses. These two products can also be used as a substitute for more expensive specialty.
