
Study Trip to Italy
Three young flautists from SNYO will embark on a study trip to Italy from 12-19 March 2011. Jasper Goh Chien Teng from Temasek Polytechnic, Rachel Ho Sze Ying from Hwa Chong Institution, and Tu SiJing from School Of The Arts (SOTA) will have the opportunity to receive flute lessons under the tutelage of renowned flautist Andrea Griminelli. In addition, they will attend classical music performances, visit music conservatories and attend various workshops.

Lara St. John
As the second mentor for the LANXESS SNYO CLASSIC series, Lara St. John brings with her a wealth of experience to the sunny shores of Singapore. She will conduct a lecture demonstration for student violinists from mainstream secondary schools and junior colleges as well as hold a series of master classes for members of the SNYO orchestra. She will also be paying a visit to the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA). Students can look forward to learning tips from this seasoned performer who made her first experience as a soloist at the age of four.

"A Musical Chemistry" Concert
LANXESS SNYO CLASSIC is proud to present “A Musical Chemistry” – the second concert in its three-year series. The SNYO performed Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 35, with violin virtuoso Lara St. John. Under the baton of guest conductor Alexander Polishchuk from Russia, the audience was treated to Wagner’s Overture to ‘Die Meistersinger Von Nürnberg’ and César Franck’s Symphony in D minor. The concert, held at the Esplanade Concert Hall, played to resounding applause on 21 April 2011. Find out more here.

World Premiere of "Fanfare for a Frazzled Earth"
Gifted Singaporean conductor and SNYO Music Director Darrell Ang, has composed "Fanfare for a Frazzled Earth" as a signature piece for the LANXESS SNYO CLASSIC program. The SNYO will perform the piece for the first time at "A Music Chemistry". In 2007, he won the grand prize, audience prize, and orchestra prize at the prestigious International Competition for Young Orchestra Conductors in Besancon, France. He was also the winner of the "9th Antonio Pedrotti International Competition for Conductors" in 2006 and the "8th Arturo Toscanini International Competition for Conductors" in 2008, and the recipient of the 2010/ 2011 Allianz Cultural Foundation Conductors' Award. At present, Darrell is Young Associate Conductor of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, and Music Director of the Singapore National Youth Orchestra.
