Dr. Werner Breuers was born in Moenchengladbach, Germany 1958. He studied Chemistry at Aachen Technical University, obtaining a science doctorate. He began his career in 1989 as a chemist in the Research and Development Division of Hoechst AG in Frankfurt.

After holding a number of managerial positions at Hoechst AG, Breuers became 1999 Vice President of Licensing & Catalysts of the Polyethylene Manufacturer Elenac GmbH in Kehl, Germany. One year later Elenac GmbH became part of Basell Group. As a member of the Basell Management Team he was Head of the global Technology Business Division based in Milan, Italy and was subsequently President of Basell Polyolefins Europe, based in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

On May 14, 2007 Breuers was appointed to the Board of Management of LANXESS AG. His responsibilities and strategic areas of operations comprehend the business lines Performance Polymers and Advanced Intermediates and the functional areas of Global Procurement & Logistics, Innovation as well as Industrial & Environmental Affairs.
