Dialogue with political target groups

Focal points of the political work

Another important element of our stakeholder communications structured dialogue with residents in the immediate vicinity of our sites. For example, our affiliate Currenta operates Chempark neighborship offices in Leverkusen, Dormagen and Krefeld-Uerdingen to serve as a point of contact for local residents interested in discussing issues concerning the Chempark sites.

Contributions

We are transparent regarding our contributions and expenditures in the field of political activities - our contributions are listed in the table on this page. We are part of the relevant major industry associations, which we consider as the basis for our advocacy. LANXESS does not provide financial support to political groups or parties.

Examples of topics and how we are politically engaged can be found here:

Climate protection and energy

With the Paris Agreement, which entered into force in November 2016, the international community committed itself to the goal of limiting global warming to less than two degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. Together with many other European chemical companies, LANXESS had already made an explicit commitment before the Paris Conference to protect the climate and fulfil the obligations it entails. “Climate action and energy efficiency” is one of our material topics. We have been working continually to reduce climate gas emissions and have cut our Scope 1 emissions worldwide by more than half. Our sites in Germany have already satisfied the national reduction requirement set for 2030. We are involved in the political discussion to advocate the interests of our company and contribute to effective legislation providing a “level playing field” for all involved parties. One example is our participation in the VCI Stakeholder Dialogue on “Decarbonisation”.

Specialty chemicals

The LANXESS Additives business comprises a broad portfolio of lubricant products, phosphorus and brominated flame retardants, plasticizers and bromine performance products. Our lubricant products enable customers to comply with increasingly demanding, government-mandated emissions and fuel-economy standards. A topic of special importance are flame retardants. LANXESS is active in the political discussion to advocate the benefits of flame retardants, is a member of the North American Flame Retardant Association (NAFRA) and present at events such as the “Fire Safety Days Symposium” in China. We believe that flame retardants pose an essential contribution to safe and sustainable urbanisation- and mobility solutions, like furniture insulation and automotive parts. Our products are subject to extensive studies regarding their impact on humans, animals and the environment and are safe for use in the intended application. Flame retardants can save lives and prevent injury and damages.
