Materials & Sustainability

Day 2 focuses on Materials & Sustainability. From urethanes and rubber additives to high-performance plastics, polymer additives and flame retardants, LANXESS offaers a wide range of innovations for a broad range of industries.

AGENDA TUESDAY, June 15 (EDT)

8:30 AM - 9:30 AM | Urethane replacing rubber in tires & wheels

IAN LASKOWITZ

Business Unit: Urethane Systems

Cast urethanes are widely used in many applications and are known to have a combination of toughness and excellent dynamics in the hardness range of 80-95 Shore A. In the past when competing against softer rubber materials (<80 Shore A) the choice was between either the excellent dynamics of an ether or toughness of an ester. LANXESS Urethanes has developed a new rubber replacement material that has the toughness of an ester material and the excellent dynamics of an ether material. In this presentation we will provide an overview of this new rubber replacement material and compare it to current rubber materials with a focus on wheel properties.

10:00 AM - 11:00 AM | Sustainable Engineering Plastics for a sustainable world – Durethan® and Pocan® solutions

GUENTER MARGRAF, HEAD OF GLOBAL PRODUCT MANAGEMENT

Business Unit: High Performance Materials

The journey of LANXESS HPM towards a sustainable Durethan® and Pocan® portfolio will be highlighted. The sustainability strategy of LANXESS HPM targets both reduction of product carbon footprints as well as increasing content of recycled raw materials. In the first part of the talk, we will present measures for carbon footprint reduction in our Caprolactam production facility. The second part of the presentation will focus on the usage of recycled feedstocks in our materials, such as glass fibers based on post industrial recycling.

11:30 AM - 12:30 PM | Sustainable lubricants portfolio for the future

CORY MACLEOD, PH.D. TECHNICAL SERVICE MANAGER

Business Unit: Lubricant Additives Business

LANXESS recognizes the need for sustainable change within the industry and is committed to developing sustainable solutions for its lubricants, base fluids and additives. We explore how this is influencing innovation within the LANXESS lubricant and additives product portfolio.

In the webinar we focus on products within our portfolio that fit to pillars of sustainability, such as meeting environmentally friendly requirements and being biodegradable and non-toxic. It will offer an opportunity to find out more about those products that have been designed using sustainable resources, as well as those that offer advanced technical performance, such as longer oil life, and greater energy efficiency.

1:00 PM - 2:00 PM | Sustainable flame retardant solutions for polymers

DR. QINGLIANG HE, SENIOR APPLICATIONS DEVELOPMENT SCIENTIST

Business Unit: Polymer Additives

The presentation demonstrates LANXESS' commitment towards more sustainable flame retardant solutions, focusing on polymeric and reactive flame retardant technologies. These concepts, reactive and polymeric flame retardants, are explained with the implementation in two different polymer systems. The benefits of new reactive and oligomeric phosphorus-based flame retardants in polyurethane foam are examined. Furthermore, the performance of polymeric brominated flame retardants in polystyrene foams as well as in engineering plastics is demonstrated.

2:30 PM - 3:30 PM | LANXESS Solutions for Sustainability in the Rubber Industry

JOEL NEILSEN

Business Unit: Rhein Chemie

Sustainability is evolving into one of the key topics in the rubber industry. Rhein Chemie is supporting its customers to successfully meet this new challenge with innovative products. These are either based on sustainable raw materials, enhancing sustainability of our customer products, e.g., by improving lifetime or energy consumption, or supporting recycling at the end of product lifetime.

WebEx Events
4:00 PM - 5:00 PM | "Non-phthalate plasticizer technology"

DR. CHRISTOPHER SIMPSON, HEAD OF APPLICATION TECHNOLOGY NORAM

Business Unit: Polymer Additives

The presentation demonstrates LANXESS' commitment towards more sustainable polymer additives, highlighting the technical performance of LANXESS non-phthalate additives solutions for polymers. This includes the performance of LANXESS specialty plasticizers, such as Mesamoll® and polymeric plasticizers Ultramoll®, in typical plasticized PVC applications.
