A different kind of trip around the world - on the trail of our climate protection projects

Once around the world. Many people dream of it, do it after graduating from high school, completing an apprenticeship, or a degree, or even in between. LANXESS is doing it too - but in a different way.
LANXESS is making an active contribution to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) - and our commitment to education and climate protection is clearly reflected in our education projects. With the "Science Classes" we travel once around the world - in a sustainable way.

First stop in Seoul

Since 2018, we have been committed to climate education in Korea. In cooperation with Seoul Metropolitan Boramae Youth Center, we organize the LANXESS Science Classes - with over 1000 participants so far.  The students can learn about climate change in workshops. With hands-on experiments on alternative energy, wind-powered vehicles and robotics, we want to get the next generation interested in science.

In addition to the Science Class, students in Seoul can also put their knowledge to the test in the Science Exploration Challenge. Together with the Seoul Metropolitan Boramae Youth Center, we are awarding prizes for the brightest minds.

"Together with the science class, we hope that this Science Exploration Challenge will provide opportunities for the youth to develop their creativity and scientific competence,"

Layover in Tokyo and Tohoku

LANXESS has also been organizing climate classes and science workshops in Tokyo in cooperation with Save the Children Japan for ten years. Our aim is to establish climate and science education among children and young people.

For Junichi Yonezu, Country Representative of LANXESS in Japan, the practical approach to education is crucial:

"We strongly believe that combining climate education with hands-on science experiments provides an exceptional learning opportunity for children, sparking their creativity and curiosity."

This summer, the young scientists explored climate change, the carbon footprint of food and the resulting emissions throughout the entire life cycle in an interactive lesson. A sustainable solution to reduce the carbon footprint of food: urban farming. The participants experimented with eco vegetable garden kits and learned how urban farming works without soil, with water and LED lights.

Not only did the children learn a lot about global warming and sustainable food, they also enjoyed teamwork and hands-on learning.[No text in field]

Last stop: Brazil

The final destination of our trip: São Paulo. Here we visit four places, starting with the "Together for Climate" circuit. This just recently took place in summer 2023. A LANXESS team uses interactive lessons to teach children and young people all about climate change and the environment. The best way to do this is in 3D cinema. Using VR glasses, pupils from public schools in São Paulo and Jarinu literally experience the topic of environmental protection up close. Other learning stations, such as an environmental trail or workshops, also offer plenty of variety.

And we are doing even more: the LANXESS team, which supports the Together for Climate initiative, is also helping to reforest an area near São Paulo. Together with family members, our colleagues are planting 120 trees there.

Our virtual trip around the world ends here - but the students' commitment to environmental protection and knowledge about climate change remains. And that is exactly what we want to achieve with our educational commitment.
