Color Pigments for Coatings
As a true one-stop-shop supplier, LANXESS delivers a comprehensive product range for iron oxide consumers. It includes Bayferrox® red, yellow, black and brown iron oxides as well as green shades based on Colortherm® chromium oxides. By utilizing a complete technology portfolio, the full coloristic spectrum is covered to meet the specific requirements of our paints and coatings customers.
The red hues of our Bayferrox® 100 and Bayferrox® 500 series, for example, range from very bluish to particularly bright yellowish shades of red. The most yellowish red pigments of our new Bayferrox® 500 series even provide the highest chromaticity of all iron oxide red pigments available on the market.
Besides a wide color range, from pale greenish to orange shades, our established yellow pigments, such as our top sellers Bayferrox® 3910 (LV), Bayferrox® 912 LOM and Bayferrox® 915 offer a significant added value when it comes to processability. Various types with specific characteristics in terms of viscosity behavior, low sedimentation and oil absorption properties are available for customer-specific coatings systems.
What’s more, our micronized pigments grades are particularly advantageous for paints and coatings applications in terms of dispersibility and tinting strength. On account of their intensive milling during their production process, the level of pigment agglomerates is significantly reduced, making these pigment types suitable for dispersion with high-speed dissolvers.
Many of our product solutions are unique in their attributes. Learn more about how our pigments bring added value to your specific application.
Furthermore, the LANXESS portfolio comprises pigment solutions providing further unique features. For example, the yellow iron oxide products of our Bayferrox® 900 series are produced almost climate neutrally at our production site in Brazil and according to the highest quality standards. Their extra-low viscosity behavior makes these top-selling products especially suitable for highly concentrated pigment paste systems.
Regardless of whether it concerns base coats or top coats, our iron oxides and chromium oxides combine a colorful finish with long-lasting weather resistance and excellent chemical resistance. As particularly industrial coatings are often applied in thin layers, the formation of visible pigment agglomerations must be avoided. Being intensively milled during their production, Bayferrox® pigments show a significant reduction of agglomerates at reduced dispersing time.
Furthermore, the LANXESS portfolio comprises pigment solutions providing further unique features. Especially for stove-enamel finishes, for example, using red pigments of our Bayferrox® 100 series is especially advantageous. As their manufacturing process includes calcining at very high temperatures, these LAUX pigments are the only iron oxides on the market which are heat-stable even at temperatures above 800 °C.
As a result of their production and finishing process, our inorganic pigments contain a low amount of water-soluble salts. Furthermore, due to their uniform particle shape, they are distributed evenly in the final coating and agglomeration is avoided. Thus, the anti-corrosion properties remain intact and an adequate appearance over a long time is assured.
Furthermore, the LANXESS portfolio comprises pigment solutions providing further unique features. Our Colortherm® chromium oxides, for example, are not classified as hazardous according to CLP (EU 1272/2008). Their high chemical resistance and temperature stability of up to 1,000 °C makes them particularly suited for highly demanding maintenance coatings applications.
Experience has shown that colored woodchips degrade
30 % more slowly than non-colored ones. This means: lower costs and longer service
lifetime. In addition, Bayferrox® pigments can even be used to color toys
(Directive 2009/48 ), meaning that our color pigments cause no harm to humans,
animals and plants.
In addition to their coloring effect, LANXESS pigment solutions provide further decisive benefits. Available in powder
form, they can be easily applied in water-based slurries. Only minor amounts of
further additives are required for improving the viscosity and preventing
sedimentation.
Our technical experts investigate customer inquiries under realistic conditions in comprehensively equipped laboratories. The portfolio includes various services, such as:
- Dispersibility testing in various coatings systems
- Color matching and formulation
- Viscosity behavior testing
