LANXESS IN THE UK

BAXENDEN

The site in Baxenden UK, a wholly owned subsidiary of specialty chemicals group LANXESS, manufactures and sells urethane prepolymers (conventional, in solvent and low free monomer), blocked isocyanates (in water or solvent), urethane foam systems and acrylic products for applications in coatings, adhesives, sealants and foams. These are specialty chemicals that are used primarily in the construction, automotive and textile industry.

The site is a COMAH establishment.

BRANSTON

In Branston, the division formerly known as W. Hawley & Son now operates under the name of LANXESS Limited - Inorganic Pigments and is an important part of the Performance Chemicals business, blending pigments primarily for the UK/Ireland markets for use in construction, coatings and related industries.

The facilities in Deeside – belonging to LANXESS Solutions UK Ltd. – do the repacking of a product range.

NEWBURY

The Newbury office houses sales, marketing and administration functions for some of the company's chemicals business units operating in the UK and Ireland.

Further field-based employees make up the rest of the team.

SUDBURY

The Sudbury site is the hub for the Virkon™ and Rely+On™ disinfectant technologies business.

Products from our Material Protection Products business unit (MPP) are used practically everywhere in the world in a wide array of applications. With our extensive portfolio of antimicrobial active ingredients, preservatives and disinfectants, we deliver customized solutions for many market sectors.

In the area of disinfection, we do not only sell active ingredients but also disinfectant products for the end market. The Virkon™ range of science-based biocidal technologies, for animal health biosecurity, have been specifically engineered to provide highly effective, fast-acting, flexible and convenient, modern formulated disinfectant solutions for commercial livestock producers, veterinary hospitals and farmers.

TRAFFORD PARK

The Trafford Park facility opened Dec. 24, 1939, to manufacture phosphate-based plasticizers for Geigy Colour Co. Ltd., a subsidiary of Geigy SA. In 1953, the site became known as Ashburton Chemicals until another reorganization occurred and it became an operating site of Geigy (UK) Ltd. In 1970, Geigy SA merged with Ciba AG and the Trafford Park site became part of Ciba Geigy UK. In 1992, the site was sold to FMC Corporation, and in August 1999, it was sold to Great Lakes Chemical Corporation. In 2005, Great Lakes Chemical joined with Crompton to become Chemtura.

Through the years, the research facility at Trafford Park developed a wide range of new products in fine chemicals and pharmaceutical intermediates, plastic additives and flame retardants, which formed the basis of its operations for several years. For the past 20 years, operations have been consolidated into flame retardants, lubrication/hydraulic fluid additives, and water-treatment chemicals.

Important brands/products: Our hydraulic/turbo fluids are used in power generation and lubrication applications where flame retardancy is required. Our water-treatment additives prevent scale in industrial water and desalination systems.

Widnes

Widnes is an industrial town in Cheshire, England, with a population of 60,000. It is located on the northern bank of the River Mersey where the estuary narrows. Due to its proximity to the sea as well as to Liverpool and Manchester, this is an extremely strategic location.

Widnes is a production site for the LANXESS Business Unit Flavors & Fragrances (BU F&F). Around 100 people are employed at the site.
