Our operations in the UK expanded significantly following two major acquisitions:
- In August 2016, LANXESS acquired the Clean and Disinfect business of U.S.-based chemicals company Chemours, enhancing our portfolio of hygiene solutions.
- In April 2017, we acquired U.S.-based Chemtura, one of the world’s leading suppliers of flame retardant and lubricant additives, further solidifying our leadership in these markets.
- In August 2021, LANXESS acquired U.S. based Emerald Kalama Chemical, market leaders in toluene oxidation products and aroma chemicals. The site in Widnes specialises in aroma chemicals for the fragrance and flavours markets.
Today, LANXESS UK excels in a broad range of activities, from blending premium inorganic pigments and manufacturing advanced biocidal products to producing urethane prepolymers, plastic additives, and flame retardants.

Our Baxenden facility specializes in the production and distribution of high-quality urethane prepolymers (available in conventional, solvent-based, and low-free monomer varieties), blocked isocyanates (water- or solvent-based), urethane foam systems, and acrylic products. These innovative specialty chemicals play a vital role in diverse applications, including coatings, adhesives, sealants, and foams, supporting key industries such as construction, automotive, and textiles.
The Baxenden site is a wholly owned subsidiary of specialty chemicals group LANXESS, and a COMAH establishment.

LANXESS Deeside can trace its roots back to the 1950’s beginning with maintenance of rail cars, moving into rail cars with integrated bromine vessels, and from the 1980’s to current day, bromine vessels designed for transport by road, rail & sea (multimodal).
A highly skilled team of specialist engineers carry out inspection, maintenance and repair on the vessels to ensure compliance to globally recognised standards.
Deeside has developed, tested and integrated many safety and reliability improvements and remains at the forefront of bromine container safety globally.
LANXESS Deeside also repackages liquid bromine from bulk into smaller vessels for customers in the UK & Europe.

The Trafford Park facility, originally opened to manufacture phosphate-based plasticizers, was established on December 24, 1939. The site has a rich history of innovation and transformation.
Over the decades, Trafford Park’s research facility has pioneered numerous advancements, developing fine chemicals, pharmaceutical intermediates, plastic additives, and flame retardants. For the past 20 years, the site has specialized in flame retardants, lubrication and hydraulic fluid additives.
