In close cooperation with local partners, educational institutions and non-profit organisations, LANXESS implements initiatives across regions that

These projects are designed to empower individuals, improve employability, and build resilient, future-ready communities.
The projects presented below demonstrate LANXESS's extensive involvement in education and skills development, covering everything from early education and school infrastructure to digital learning, science education, and professional training initiatives.
LANXESS India endeavours to support children’s welfare and education in the country. In August 2009 LANXESS made a donation to Aparajitha Foundation in support of the ‘Thalir Thiran Thittam’ (TTT) program. The sponsorship benefits three schools in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, for a period of six years and enable students to learn 120 skills.
The vision of TTT is to inspire students toward realizing their full potential and having a holistic approach to life. The life skills program will expose them to
- soft skills,
- right attitudes and
- constructive thinking,
which are extremely important in life, but which are not covered by the regular curriculum. It aims to make the students feel more confident and better equipped to deal effectively with the demands and challenges of everyday life, thus leading to a more ‘Confident India’.
About Aparajitha Foundations
Aparajitha Foundations is a trust promoted by the Aparajitha Group (APPL). APPL was incorporated as a special purpose vehicle to develop curriculum for such life skills, copyright the same and reach it to schools. The group has been training executives and staff from non metropolitan areas to make them ‘work’ ready since 2000. Many of them, no matter what their background have scaled new peaks in their careers with the right kind of inputs and orientation.

Government Primary school at Palya village and the primary section of Bharat Commerce Vidyalaya was supported with essential items for school infrastructure, stationary and school kit. The items for the school included furniture, almirah and teaching assistance materials. This contribution was made at a ceremony at the Government Primary School at Palya village.
November 2011
In order to celebrate the International Year of Chemistry, LANXESS conducted a poster competition for around 300 students of Bharat Commerce Vidyalaya and Shaskiya Prathamik Vidyalaya in Mehtawas. The event saw enthusiastic participation from the students and many innovative ideas about conserving our environment. The competition helped the students express their thoughts on ways to tackle the current environmental challenges. The best posters were rewarded by LANXESS.
August 2010
LANXESS India provided equipments for the modernization of the Physics and Chemistry laboratories and also donated five computers to the Bharat Commerce Vidyalaya (BCI School), Nagda in 2010. The school got its first computer centre set up with these computers. Additionally, LANXESS also contributed to the books and periodicals for the library and facilities for the nursery section in the school. A substantial number of students benefited from this contribution.
Consequent to BCI shutting down, the BCI School was running with the fees collected from the students and minimal government support. The BCI School had been a very prestigious school in Nagda, where children including those of employees from LANXESS Nagda study in. By helping the school to revive its facilities and gain back its past glory, LANXESS propelled the cause of better education in Nagda and hence re-iterated its core value of building a sustainable ecosystem in every region that it operates in.
2014-2018
LANXESS India Private Limited, a subsidiary of leading global specialty chemicals company LANXESS, completed its association with Teach For India (TFI), a pledge of five years commitment to support the not-for-profit organization’s efforts towards providing quality education to children. The company has delivered a sum of EUR 75000 (approx. INR 53 lakhs) per year for projects since 2014.
Each year, a small ceremony was organized at LANXESS house, Thane, where TFI received cheques from the country representative of LANXESS India Private Limited in the presence of other dignitaries. These contributions have helped TFI in their quest to support fellows, who give up their jobs for volunteering to educate the under privileged children in municipal schools. Till now, LANXESS India has supported 75 fellows (trained teachers on a 2 year full time paid commitment) and 2400 students directly. Some of the fellows that LANXESS has supported were then well placed in various corporate organizations such as Thermax and some pursued further studies in Harvard University and Tata Institute of Social Sciences.

Impressing on its continual commitment towards education, LANXESS extended its support to Teach for India (TFI) for another five years, till year 2018. The announcment was made by Dr. Axel C. Heitmann, Chairman of the LANXESS Board of Management, during his visit to India in January 2013.
December 2012
LANXESS presented its 2013 sponsorship to Teach for India. Fourteen children from municipal school along with their TFI fellows were invited to visit LANXESS office in Thane. They were given a office tour followed by an informative talk about LANXESS and its products.
November 2011
Further strengthening its commitment to the cause of education, LANXESS continued with its commitment to the three year sponsorship with Teach for India. The contribution made by LANXESS will help TFI to sustain their current operations in Mumbai as well as support expansion activities to encompass New Delhi and Jhagadia. On November 23, 2011, LANXESS invited twenty five bright young students along with their ‘fellows’ and two staff members from Teach For India to visit LANXESS India office at Thane. They were given a tour of the LANXESS Technical Rubber Centre.

A week long "Book Drive" was organized at the LANXESS, Thane office. The idea was to create awareness among the employees about how unused educational articles could be a treasure for the kids and could become fun way of imparting education at school.
Contributing to the growth and development of the socio-economic ecosystem in every region of its operation is one of the core values of LANXESS. Education is an area that LANXESS believes has the maximum potential to benefit the lives of citizens of tomorrow. This would in turn foster the growth of the economy.
A project of Teach to Lead, a not-for-profit organization, TFI is recruiting and mobilizing top Indian college graduates and young professionals, namely fellows, who commit to teaching full-time for two years in underfunded schools. Post completion of the devoted two years in full time teaching, these fellows will become lifelong advocates for equity in education, working from within various sectors.
This project is modeled after Teach for America and was implemented following McKinsey & Company’s report on the project’s favorable prospects for success in India.
LANXESS donates Chemistry Experiment Kits to Schools in Jhagadia
As a part of its commitment towards education and its support towards science education at elementary school level, LANXESS donated chemistry kits to four schools namely,
- Kapalsadi school,
- Fulwadi school,
- St. Xaviers School and
- Dewan Dhanjishah High School and College,
located near LANXESS site in Jhagadia.
Each of these chemistry kits consists of
- an experiment case,
- a box with additional equipment and
- instruction manuals.
The manuals have description and instructions for conducting ten different experiments based on water solubility. The working materials and experiments are adapted to the needs, knowledge, and abilities of primary school-age children. These kits, being portable, are convenient for schools which do not have science rooms or laboratories.
The initiative was part of LANXESS’ worldwide project, through which 1000 chemistry kits have been donated to elementary schools and educational institutions located close to LANXESS sites.This is a co-branded programme wherein LANXESS has collaborated with a social enterprise B-Able (BASIX Academy for Building Lifelong Employability Limited) to support skill development initiatives imparting skill/vocational training to underprivileged youth along with job placement.
LANXESS India Private Limited contributed towards setting up of a computer training centre for students and working professionals, including workers at plants, in Nagda, where the Advanced Industrial Intermediates business unit has its manufacturing facility. This corporate responsibility initiative was done in collaboration with the Madhya Pradesh Labour Welfare Board, which provided the space for the training centre in their premises in Nagda.
LANXESS provided ten computers along with electrical accessories and the initial infrastructure necessary for setting up the centre. The infrastructure support for the centre includes
- painting,
- carpentry work,
- air conditioners and
- books
that would be required for training. The computers have been installed and made functional by LANXESS which will be meant for training purpose, and will also be supported for maintenance.
LANXESS supported the government school at Umarna village, as a part of its social responsibility initiatives in the area of education.
The school was supported in infrastructural development and more than 300 students were provided with stationary and educational materials. The infrastructure support for the school included
- water storage tank,
- water purifier,
- cupboards,
- benches and chairs as well as
- teaching assistance materials.
This contribution was made at a ceremony in the school premises on October 4th, 2012.
National Scholarship Program for the Specially Abled children launched in the Capital
LANXESS India sponsors training for students in vocal music and tabla.
In line with its philosophy of sustainable development, LANXESS has always supported educational initiatives amongst other activities throughout the world. Going a step forward, in a novel initiative, LANXESS has given a scholarship to three specially abled children for training in vocal music and tabla. This has been done through a partnership with Harmony and Universality through Music (HUM), a non profit trust founded by the two times Grammy nominated tabla maestro, Sandeep Das.
The scholarship, named the ‘HUM - LANXESS National Scholarship’, was presented to three visually impaired students at an event held at Civil Services Officers' Institute (CSOI), Chanakyapuri, New Delhi on April 18th. The scholarship will be for a period of 5 years and will cover the tuition fees for the
- guru,
- transportation costs for attending classes,
- funds for buying books,
- instruments,
- study/practice material.
The event was attended by corporate partners, members of the musical fraternity and other dignitaries. A short musical presentation of HUM Ensemble led by Sandeep Das, Founder and Creative Director, was made with the young musicians that HUM has worked with in the past.
LANXESS India supported Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Jhagadia on the Child Welfare and Educational Project. For the project, LANXESS India sponsored the education of 89 students for a year.
LANXESS India’s sponsorship included:
- one year of educational training,
- students’ fee for the training program and
- the purchase of engineering toolkits required for the curriculum.
ITI Jhagadia trains students and educates them in various technical works, such as electrical, fitter, welding and motor rewinding. It also conducts computer classes for the students.
As part of child welfare and education program, LANXESS has continued to support the Kanya Kelavani Nidhi project, an initiative by the Government of Gujarat with a long term goal that no girl child in Gujarat remains illiterate.
Since 2003, every year in the month of June, the Chief Minister along with his team travels to remote villages to encourage parents to enroll their children in schools. It is a three day long statewide drive covering all the villages and the urban areas in the scorching summer heat. An atmosphere of festivity and celebration is created. Young children now wait keenly to get themselves enrolled into schools.
This is a co-branded programme wherein LANXESS has collaborated with a social enterprise B-Able (BASIX Academy for Building Lifelong Employability Limited) to support skill development initiatives imparting skill/vocational training to underprivileged youth along with job placement. The candidates are given training under the categories of Sewing Machine operators and Call Centre training.
A total of 138 candidates were enrolled for the courses wherein 129 completed the training and were certified. The candidates were also assisted for placements. A total of 96 candidates have been placed in companies or have started their own business.
LANXESS India partnered with Sri Saibaba Trust to provide financial assistance to approximately 100 underprivileged children who attend local schools in Thane.
The money donated by LANXESS India was used to buy
- school uniforms and
- books for the students
at two secondary schools.

Participating in the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon is a great way to begin the year and LANXESS India employees did exactly the same by supporting Isha Vidhya, which works towards educating rural India. This was LANXESS’ second consecutive year in the Mumbai Marathon and a total of 57 employees nominated themselves for the Dream run. The LANXESS runners showed their support to Isha Vidhya’s cause of rural education by holding banners and raising slogans. They also raised considerable funds for Isha Vidhya through their fund raising pages.

The Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon is one of the most anticipated events on Mumbai’s calendar and a unique platform to represent a cause. In its endeavor to support the cause of education, 40 employees from LANXESS ran to raise funds for Isha Vidhya, an NGO that works towards empowering rural education.
December 04th, 2012: LANXESS, in co-operation with the Nagda Municipality has set up a fully functional library equipped with text books, reference books, journals and magazines near its site in Nagda.
The library has books pertaining to the syllabi of the Madhya Pradesh State Board, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and ICSE for students from Class VIII to Class XII. These include subjects like English, Hindi, Maths, Science, Sanskrit, History, Geography, Civics, Environment Science, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Accounts, Economics and Computer Science among others.
For college students who are pursuing their undergraduate studies in
- Science,
- Commerce,
- Arts,
- Business Administration or
- Computer Application
can also benefit from an array of course books prescribed by the University as well as reference books. LANXESS will also provide for monthly magazines on general interest topics and newspapers through ongoing subscriptions.
Through this investment, LANXESS has made an effort towards providing better resources and an environment to support their studies. This includes the interiors of the library the cost of books and periodicals.
LANXESS arranged an educational programme for the students of the organization Save the Children India (STCI), whom LANXESS has supported in the past as well. Around 50 students from Standard 5, 6 and 7 from the study centers of STCI were accompanied to the Nehru Science Centre situated in Worli, Mumbai on April 19, 2011. This visit aimed at exposing the children to various laws of science in a fun and interactive manner outside of the classroom. The visit included three different shows and a tour around the science center.
In 2010, LANXESS India supported the Child Welfare and Education Project in Mumbai by collaborating with Save the Children India that aims to help slum children complete their pre-primary education. LANXESS made a donation to STCI to cover the education-related expenses of five pre-primary schools (called ’balwadis’) under its care. LANXESS also donated water purifiers to the ’balwadis’ that it supports and as a small contribution to school sports, donated two footballs to each balwadi. Each balwadi accommodates about 20 to 25 students in a single shift.
In 2010, LANXESS India also donated a school van to the NGO in Mumbai. STCI has deployed the buses as means of transport for slum dwelling children to go to STCI schools on a daily basis.
LANXESS has always believed in contributing towards education. Implementing this belief in our CSR initiative, LANXESS India is supporting Municipal schools in the vicinity of our operations, with interactive e-learning tool in order to enhance the quality of education. These tools have been set up in each school for children to experience Audio-Visual learning in alignment with the curriculum of the Boards governing the schools. Currently, 5 schools in Jhagadia, are supported by LANXESS namely:
- Fulwadi Primary school
- Kapalsadi Primary school
- Kapalsadi Government Secondary School
- Selod Primary school
- St. Xavier’s high school
Similar arrangements are being provided at 2 Municipal Corporation schools in the neighborhoods of LANXESS India HQ, Thane. LANXESS India has contributed INR 22,75,000 for this initiative in the year 2017-2018. Impressing LANXESS commitment towards Corporate Social Responsibility by way of technological intervention in educational empowerment, LANXESS India signed a three year long agreement with the Government College, Nagda, Madhya Pradesh for supporting the institution with e-learning tools.
This project is in line with LANXESS’ vision of a digital future and also finds resonance with the current government’s focus on creating a digitally empowered nation. LANXESS India, in a ceremony held at Civil Hospital, Nagda in the presence of Dilip Singh Shekhawat, local Member of Legislative Assembly, Neelanjan Banerjee, Senior Executive Director, Sanjay Singh, Site Head, Nagda, and other esteemed dignitaries from the state and local administration, formalized the agreement with the Government College of Nagda to support the institution with seven interactive e-learning tools at a cost of around Rs.15,00,000.
In the year 2010, LANXESS India supported Shaskiya Prathmik Vidyalaya, located in Mehtawas village at Nagda in order to make a meaningful difference to the 125 odd students studying there. LANXESS in its initiative in the first year improved the infrastructure of this school in addition to donating essential items to the students. In order to encourage education within the local community and with a focus on upliftment of children belonging to weaker sections of the society, LANXESS also provided scholarships to the meritorious students of every class.
There has been a lack of infrastructure as well as basic facilities at schools in Jhagadia. Taking note of this, LANXESS has supported 5 schools with computers and 8 schools with computer teacher training in 2018 - 2019. In addition to this, the company also distributed school bags to students from 7 municipal schools. Through these projects, LANXESS has reached out to nearly 3000 students.
LANXESS has contributed towards the education of children by way of supporting the District Collector’s office in infrastructure development of the Aanganwadi school at Nanasanja, Jhagadia. This project includes construction of Aanganwadi building, work of compound wall, furniture, toys, swings and slides etc.
LANXESS supported the government school in Fulwadi and Selod, as a part of its social responsibility initiatives in the area of education. Two schools,
- Balshiksha Kendra at Fulwadi and
- Selod Secondary school in Selod
were supported for infrastructur development. The infrastructure support for the school included installation of school gate and painting the boundary walls, repairing the doors and windows of the schools, painting the building and the roof, installing sink with provision of drinking water and wash area, renovating the urinal and fencing the school walls with wire mess.
In 2012 LANXESS India took an initiative towards supporting education of children in and around Jhagadia site. Two neighboring government schools at Fulwadi and Kapalsadi were selected for the same. LANXESS supported these schools with infrastructure as well as essential items for students. The teaching and studying materials included
- slate,
- slate pen,
- notebook,
- pens,
- pencils,
- sketch pen,
- drawing book,
- crayons,
- sports items,
- cloth bags and
- green writing boards and notice boards
for the classrooms. In terms of infrastructure, LANXESS built a concrete courtyard and painted the classrooms.
The principals’ of both the schools expressed their heart felt gratitude and applauded the activities initiated by LANXESS in their school. They said "LANXESS came forward with good intentions and the right attitude to help the students of the schools. Hence they were able to achieve the improvements done in the school in such a short timeframe. The schools and classrooms look good and the impact created is huge which was evident in the enthusiasm and the bright smiles of all the children and the teachers of the schools."
LANXESS partnered with Bombay Teen Challenge, a non-profit agency, to help Mumbai’s street children in health, education, social welfare and rehabilitation.
Through Bombay Teen Challenge, LANXESS India took care of tuition expenses for 76 children. Furthermore, LANXESS India provided lunch and sundry expenses for those, among these children, who have been rescued and are looked after by Bombay Teen Challenge. In addition, LANXESS India employees painted the Bombay Teen Challenge shelter at Gole Deol in Mumbai on December 28th, 2007, with paint donated by LANXESS.
In August 2010, employees of LANXESS India organized a football match and awarded these children for their good sportsmanship and team spirit with gifts and hamburgers. Also, LANXESS India employees donated clothes and toys to Bombay Teen Challenge.
Bombay Teen Challenge
Bombay Teen Challenge is a non-profit NGO recognized by the Government of India and is registered under the BPT Act F –14248. The NGO is engaged in activities of Health, Education, Social Welfare and Rehabilitation of drug addicted boys and youth, women trapped in prostitution, the at-risk daughters of prostitutes and other girls vulnerable to the sex industry and street children who are vulnerable to abuse and exploitation especially beggar children.
LANXESS supported the University Institute of Chemical Technology’s annual Prodigy festival that tests the skills of young chemists through technical and non-technical competitions.
For LANXESS India, the alliance with UICT was an opportunity to
- support the study of chemistry in India as well as
- recruit potential employees.
UICT is renowned as one of top institutions for chemical engineering worldwide.
