Ticks & mosquitos are already out in force. Use a repellent containing Picaridin from LANXESS
- Insect repellents with the active ingredient Picaridin provide effective protection for the whole family
- EPA-registered and World Health Organization-recommended
Many people associate biting insects with summer activities. Pesky mosquitos invade our cookouts and picnics. Ticks are a concern during our vacations and camping trips. But mosquitos and ticks aren’t following our calendar; they’re already out in force! As the country moves into Spring and you start taking greater advantage of the outdoors, LANXESS urges you to use an insect repellent with its active ingredient Picaridin (known as Saltidin®/Icaridin outside the U.S.) to avoid not just the annoyance but the potential danger of vector-borne diseases carried by some biting insects and ticks.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) identifies LANXESS’ Picaridin as “safe and effective” in preventing both tick and mosquito bites.* On it’s website, the CDC also shows that the number of tick bites actually begins it’s steep seasonal increase in peaks in May, and slowly declines during the summer months. The time for a Picaridin-based insect repellent is starting now.
“Just as we use sunscreen in places other than the beach or pool, so too should we grow the habit of using insect repellents any time of year when we’re outdoors,” advises LANXESS’ Dr. Nora Hofmann, Global Business Manager, Picaridin. “And,” she adds, “one need not to be deep in the forest or on tropical vacation to encounter biting insects. Many people are bitten in their own backyards playing with their pets or mowing the lawn or during sports like golfing or hiking and could become infected with serious diseases.”
Why Picaridin and not another insect repellent active ingredient?
Picaridin — a highly effective, broad-spectrum insect repellent active ingredient — is appreciated for having the strength of LANXESS chemistry. Yet Picaridin is not oily, greasy or sticky on the skin. And, unlike other active ingredients, Picaridin does not damage plastics or other synthetic materials found on sports gear, bicycles, camping gear, fishing line and other outdoor equipment.
“Picaridin/Saltidin® appeals to those who are concerned about the disadvantages associated with other well-known insect repellent active ingredients,” says Christian Lewandowski, Sales Manager for Picaridin in the US and Canada. “And Picaridin is safe. It can be used with confidence on the whole family.”
Picaridin works by interfering with insects’ ability to recognize humans as a source of blood. And products with Picaridin provide this safe protection for up to 14 hours, depending on the formulation and when used as directed. Currently, there are several major brands of Picaridin-based repellents available in the U.S. and throughout the world, in various concentrations and application methods, such as sprays, creams, wipes and sticks.
Recommended and registered!
Picaridin is a CDC-recommended, EPA-registered insect repellent active ingredient found effective in providing long-lasting protection from mosquitos, as well as ticks and biting flies. Picaridin is also recommended by the World Health Organization.***
