Pittsburgh, Pa. – January 29, 2024–Specialty chemicals company LANXESS has been selected to present its latest technologies for the cleaning products industry during the 8th Innovation Showcase, part of the American Cleaning Products (ACI) Annual Meeting & Industry Convention taking place January 29 – February 2 in Orlando, Florida.
“Kalaguard® SB Scopeblue®: a smaller carbon footprint for a big step toward sustainability” will be presented during the Sustainable Innovation session on January 31 from 7:30-9:00 a.m.
Kalaguard® SB is the first and only EPA FIFRA-registered sodium benzoate preservative for home care products. An effective, yet gentle preservative, Kalaguard® SB sodium benzoate effectively controls bacteria, yeasts and molds at pH levels up to 7.0, is non-sensitizing and non-irritating to the skin, nature-identical and readily biodegradable. Sodium benzoate is also included in environmentally-friendly certification programs, such as the EPA’s Safer Choice Chemical Ingredients List, the EU Ecolabel, Ecocert and Nordic Swan. The preservative has been successfully used in a variety of commercial home care products worldwide, including household cleaners, wipes, detergents, hand dishwashing liquids and laundry care products.
Now CO2-neutral
To support customers in their sustainability initiatives, LANXESS has launched a renewable version: Kalaguard® SB Scopeblue®, the world’s first ISCC Plus mass balance-certified renewable sodium benzoate preservative for the cleaning products industry. Kalaguard® SB Scopeblue® is based on bio-circular feedstocks and can be a drop-in replacement for traditional sodium benzoate in existing formulations, as it does not alter the specifications of the final product.
With Kalaguard® SB Scopeblue®, LANXESS customers can reduce the overall product carbon footprint in their existing cleaning product formulations with a seamless transition to the renewable version of this sodium benzoate preservative. Following the ISCC Plus certified mass balance approach, LANXESS is able to offer a proven product with a measurably improved carbon footprint, with the same premium product quality and unchanged characteristics.
Stepping to the industry’s forefront, LANXESS’ Flavors & Fragrances business unit will offer the majority of its manufactured product portfolio based on mass balance sustainable raw materials and green energy, under the LANXESS sustainability umbrella brand “Scopeblue®”, which identifies products with circular raw materials, or a particularly low carbon footprint compared to conventional products. All five of the F&F business unit’s production sites worldwide are now ISCC Plus certified.
Commitment to climate action
As a member of the American Cleaning Institute, LANXESS will join ACI’s 1.5° Climate Challenge, committing to leadership in climate action within the cleaning products industry. The company has already developed a clear strategy to achieve climate-neutrality for Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2040, and net-zero including Scope 3 by 2050. LANXESS’ climate targets are in line with the 1.5° trajectory of the Paris Climate Agreement, which has been approved by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi).
