LANXESS starts up expanded plant for sustainable sulfur carriers

High-performance additives for lubricants are mainly used in the metalworking industry
Mannheim

Specialty chemicals company LANXESS has completed the expansion of its production capacity for sustainable light-color sulfur carriers by several kilotons. The project, with an investment volume in the double-digit millions, was completed at the Mannheim site in around two years as planned. The additional volumes will be available from 2024.

"Sustainability is becoming an increasingly important topic for our customers," says Neelanjan Banerjee, Head of the LANXESS Lubricant Additives Business (LAB). "With our sustainable light-color sulfur carriers, we have the right offering to meet customer needs and further expand our market position in Extreme Pressure additives".

Reduce wear and avoid cold welding

LANXESS offers a broad range of Extreme Pressure additives under the brand names Additin EP and Scopeblue Additin EP. They are highly effective in reducing wear on metal surfaces and prevent cold welding. These additives are used in metalworking fluids, as well as greases, gear oils and slideway oils.

Most Additin EP are eco-friendly and are based on locally sourced, renewable raw materials such as rapeseed oil and its ester derivatives. Lanxess has labeled the variants that are based on more than 50 percent sustainable raw materials with its sustainability brand Scopeblue.

With their favorable eco-toxicological profile and excellent performance even at high machining speed and in heavy-duty metalworking processes, Additin EP and Scopeblue Additin EP are an effective solution for formulators who wish to replace substances such as medium-chain chlorinated paraffins, which have been classified as Substances of Very High Concern (SVHCs) by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) due to their environmental persistence and high bioaccumulation potential.

LANXESS´ Lubricant Additives Business has a long track record of providing application technology expertise as well as tailor-made solutions to customers. It is the partner of choice for formulators who wish to transition to ecofriendly and highly effective components, such as Additin EP and Scopeblue Additin EP.
