West Hill Wins Responsible Care Award
Editor: Kathrin Achenbach
Congratulations to our West Hill, Ontario site, which recently earned recognition from the Chemical Industry Association of Canada (CIAC) at its annual Responsible Care Awards.
The CIAC presented LANXESS Canada with the prestigious “Accountability Award,” recognizing the Lubricant Additives Business Unit site for its ongoing sustainability efforts. Recently, leaders engaged with the Toronto Regional Conservation Authority (TRCA) to participate in the organization’s Private Land Planting Program.
Through this public-private partnership, the TRCA contributed and planted 300+ trees and shrubs at the site to further support the region’s goal of achieving 40% tree cover across Toronto. Combined with the site’s Earth Day 2024 installation of a 1,500-square-foot pollinator garden, which also enhances the entryway aesthetics, these award-winning sustainability initiatives support local ecology, including the on-site bee hives.
Site Manager, Katherine Down, attended the CIAC’s Responsible Care Awards ceremony in Toronto to accept the recognition on behalf of the site.

“Responsible Care means taking responsibility for not just our operations, but also about being good stewards of the land we’re on.”
“Our team has transformed underutilized green spaces at our site into pollinator-friendly habitats, showing how chemical plants can model sustainability and community engagement in new and meaningful ways,” she later stated in a subsequent LinkedIn post.
