Yes. Nagardo® is an approved food additive.
In the EU and Canada, Nagardo® is listed as "glycolipids" in the list of ingredients, naming the functionality. Example: preservative: glycolipids.
In the USA, listing of the common name (e.g. glycolipids, mushroom glycolipids, etc) next to the functionality is required. Example: mushroom glycolipids (to preserve freshness).
It is additionally possible to use green and consumer-friendly claims. Wordings have to be evaluated individually considering country-specific regulations.
Nagardo® is approved for use in flavoured beverages (such as CSDs, still drinks, energy drinks, sport drinks, teas, kombucha, teas) and in non-alcoholic beer in many countries worldwide. In various countries, Nagardo® can also be used in juices, in alcoholic beverages and / or other food products.
Regulation is country-specific. Always ensure to follow your local legislation.
The German Purity Law (“Reinheitsgebot”) permits only water, malt (from barley or wheat), and hops to be used in the production of beer. Since non‑alcoholic beer in Germany falls under the same legislation, Nagardo® cannot be used. Unfortunately, glycolipids were not known in 1516 when the law was introduced.
However, Nagardo® may be used in beer-mix beverages in Germany, and in non‑alcoholic beer in all other European countries.
Yes, Nagardo® in 2.5 kg and 10 kg packaging is certified Kosher and Halal.
For the 15 g sachet packaging, there is currently no such certification available. We thus recommend using the larger packaging forms instead.
Maximum use level is 50 mg/L in the EU, USA and Australia. However, usually your optimum dosage will be much lower.
Nagardo® is only distibuted in powder format to limit transportation cost and volume - shipping 99% water is not sustainable and limits shelf life as well.
