ADDITIN® RC 2415
Medium viscosity, medium active sulfur carrier
Additin® RC 2415 is a light-colored, low odor, medium viscosity sulfur carrier. Due to its good lubricity and medium
activity with an active sulfur content of approx. 5%, it is ideally suited for
manufacturing metalworking fluids for medium to heavy duty cutting operations.
The performance of metalworking fluids containing Additin® RC 2415 can even be increased by combinations with zinc dithiophosphates, e.g. Additin® RC 3038, phosphoric acid partial esters or ashless phosphorus-sulfur additives like Additin® RC 3890.
Additin® RC 2415 meets the requirements of the LuSC (“Lubricant Substance Classification”) list and is therefore suitable for the formulation of lubricants that can be awarded with the EU Ecolabel. It is labelled with the Scopeblue brand for consisting of more than 50 percent of natural, regionally sourced renewable raw materials.

EP additives form protective layers on metal surfaces that prevent adhesive wear under boundary and mixed friction conditions. The common types of Extreme Pressure additives are sulfur- based compounds, phosphorus- based compounds, chlorine-based compounds. They are essential ingredients of most metalworking fluids, industrial lubricants like gear oils or slideway oils and EP greases.
They prevent cold welding of the gears tooth faces and flanks under high pressure conditions, particularly during starting, stopping or shock load processes.

Sulfur carriers, chlorinated paraffins, some phosphorus compounds.
Short chain chlorinated paraffins (chain-length C10 – C13) are already banned and eliminated from metalworking fluid formulations in Europe and many other countries, due to their persistency in the environment with a high potential for bioaccumulation, and because of their classification as toxic to aquatic organisms, carcinogenic to rats and mice and possibly carcinogenic to humans. Medium chain chlorinated paraffins (chain-length C14 – C17) are also already banned or at least supposed to be banned in many countries within the next years because of their risks to the ecosystem and to human health. Many chlorinated paraffins are categorized according to the globally harmonized system of classification and labelling of chemicals as “very toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects”. Sulfur carriers do not show any kind of hazard classification.
Depending on the specific metalworking process and the metal that is machined, different sulfur carriers or synergistic combinations of sulfur carriers and other additives can even exceed the performance of CLPs in metalworking fluids.
