Sustainable pigments for low carbon footprint coatings formulations

Decarbonization is a key challenge for the coatings industry.  A large part of the emissions from coating formulations comes from the raw materials. LANXESS has launched the Bayferrox® Scopeblue pigments product line, which helps to measurably minimize the carbon footprint (PCF) in highly pigmented formulations.

Whether building materials, paints and coatings, plastics or paper - inorganic pigments give many products used in daily life the right color shade.

Discover our Scopeblue product line

  • The new product line includes our high-performance iron oxides for coatings applications – Bayferrox® 3910, 3910 LV and 3920. Now, these micronized yellow pigments are also available as a more eco-friendly version.
  • Thanks to the use of more eco-efficient raw materials in the production, they provide a significantly lower carbon footprint, reduced by about 35% in comparison to our regular corresponding product grades.

Perfect match for sustainable formulations

  • Bayferrox® Scopeblue pigments help to measurably minimize the carbon footprint in high pigmented applications. In the production of pigment pastes, for example, the footprint of the overall formulation can be reduced about 20 percent and more – depending on the pigment concentration.
  • Products can be used in existing coating systems and provide the same level of performance as their regular counterparts. Color, functional properties and the chemical composition of this pigment class all remain unchanged.

Verified environmental data

  • Third-party verification is key when it comes to ensuring that the environmental footprint of products is true, transparent, and has integrity. LANXESS provides comprehensive LCA data for its Scopeblue products – verified  by the independent testing house TÜV Rheinland.
  • The sustainable origin and use of its raw materials is also certified to ISCC Plus.
  • Thus, the environmental impact of Scopeblue pigments in our  customers’ supply chain can be reliably assessed.
