We continuously reduce our carbon footprint by using renewable energy and sustainable raw materials to support us and our customers toward the climate-neutral journey. Clean and renewable energy at Polymer Additives site in El Dorado, Arkansas 

As of Q2 2024, we take an important step to reduce emissions in one of LANXESS’ largest energy-using sites, El Dorado, by utilizing a combination of clean and renewable energy produced in Arkansas.

The company’s three facilities in El Dorado are expected to see an 82% reduction in indirect greenhouse gas emissions associated with the purchase of energy, or Scope 2 emissions. The emissions reduction is part of Entergy’s Go ZERO (Zero Emissions Resource Options) and Green Promise programs, which offer commercial and industrial customers customizable options for clean energy.

Since the beginning of 2023, Covestro and LANXESS have cooperated to produce chlorine, caustic soda, and hydrogen from more sustainable production. Covestro manufactures CO2-reduced raw materials using energy from hydropower based on guarantees of origin. LANXESS has sourced respective green raw materials from the ISCC PLUS-certified sites of Covestro in Leverkusen and Krefeld-Uerdingen. The production of chlorine, hydrogen, and caustic soda is very energy-intensive, so switching to renewable electricity for production significantly reduces CO2 emissions for LANXESS. For PLA, transitioning to a green version helps reduce the carbon footprint of many of our products.

Digitization meets sustainability: LANXESS Product Carbon Footprint Engine provides certified PCF values for most Polymer Additives products

LANXESS has developed a digital carbon footprint engine that enables us to calculate the carbon footprint (PCF) of our products. It helps us and our customers to make well-grounded decisions on their way to climate neutrality and to reduce or neutralize emissions in the value chain. At PLA, product Carbon Footprint certificates are available for most of our products.
