In addition to colorants, the portfolio of Polymer Additives includes a wide variety of other additives for the coating industry.
The plasticizer Mesamoll® is especially suitable for flexible sealants and adhesives that are expected to exhibit a high degree of stability, particularly in contact with concrete and moisture.
As a coalescent, K-FLEX® – a non-phthalate plasticizer with low VOC content – optimizes essential properties of varnishes such as scratch resistance, luster, and dirt pick-up.
Products from the Disflamoll® brand offer effective flame retardance. The phosphorous-based additives are colorless and are used both in solvent-based and aqueous dispersions. They do not affect the color of the end product and are also suitable for use in transparent applications. Disflamoll® products are used in CAS (coatings, adhesives, sealants) applications in order to satisfy fire protection requirements.
Our technologies control and solve microbial contamination problems of materials in the wet state, thus lengthening product shelf life, and protecting dry film from algae, mold and mildew.

• We produce Benzyl Alcohol at four sites around the world, with a presence on every continent. It brings performance and value to a wide range of applications. For example, it is widely used as a non-reactive diluent in epoxy resin coatings where it reduces viscosity and raises product flexibility. In coatings and lacquers, our Benzyl Alcohol is valued as a solvent or co-solvent due to its low volatility and low toxicity. In paint stripper formulations, it especially acts as an environmentally friendly substitute for methylene chloride, also called dichloromethane/DCM or dimethyl chloride.
• Our PUROX® B Benzoic Acid is a key raw material in the production of alkyd resins, where it controls viscosity and enhances gloss, adhesion, hardness, and chemical resistance. It also effectively inhibits corrosion and flash rust at low concentrations.
• Benzaldehyde is an industrially useful aromatic aldehyde. It is used extensively as a non-reactive diluent in epoxy resin coatings where it reduces the viscosity and raises product flexibility.

4. Microbial Control Products: Aqueous raw materials used in the formulation of paints and coatings create the perfect environment for the growth of bacteria, fungi and yeast which can destroy these valuable formulations. Our technologies control and solve microbial contamination problems of materials in the wet state, thus lengthening product shelf life. Moreover, we offer solutions to protect dry-film from algae and mold growth.
5. Binders and Resins: LANXESS produces binders and resins that act as the film-forming components in coatings. These binders provide adhesion, chemical resistance, and durability to the coating film. LANXESS offers a range of binders, including acrylics, polyurethanes, alkyds, and epoxy resins.
6. Crosslinkers and Curing Agents: LANXESS provides crosslinkers and curing agents that enable the curing and crosslinking of coatings, leading to improved hardness, chemical resistance, and film integrity. These products are used in various coating applications, such as automotive, industrial, and protective coatings.
7. Coating Additives: LANXESS offers a broad portfolio of coating additives, including wetting agents, defoamers, rheology modifiers, and surface modifiers. These additives help optimize coating performance and application properties, such as leveling, flow, and substrate wetting.
8. Waterborne Systems: LANXESS provides waterborne systems and technologies, including water-based binders, pigments, and additives. These solutions offer environmentally friendly alternatives to solvent-based coatings, with lower VOC emissions and reduced environmental impact.
- Quality and Durability: High-quality paint products will have better durability, adhesion, and resistance to wear and tear. Look for paints that offer excellent coverage, color retention, and protection against UV rays, moisture, and stains. Consider the reputation and reliability of the brand or manufacturer.
- Performance and Application: Good paint should have good flow and leveling properties, allowing for smooth application and minimizing brush marks or roller stippling. It should also have suitable drying and curing times. Consider the type of paint (e.g., interior, exterior, water-based, solvent-based) and its suitability for the specific application (walls, wood, metal, etc.).
- Color Range and Accuracy: Look for paint products that offer a wide range of colors to choose from, as well as the ability to customize or match specific shades. Ensure that the color consistency is reliable and that the paint provides accurate and true-to-color results.
- Environmental Considerations: Consider eco-friendly options such as low or zero volatile organic compounds (VOC) paints, which have reduced harmful emissions and less impact on indoor air quality and the environment. Look for paints with certifications like Green Seal or LEED compliance.
- Ease of Use and Cleanup: Good paint should be easy to work with, providing smooth application and easy cleanup. Look for paints that are easy to mix, apply, and clean tools or brushes after use. Consider factors like odor, splatter resistance, and ease of touch-ups or recoating.
- Customer Reviews and Recommendations: Read customer reviews and seek recommendations from professionals or trusted sources. Feedback from others who have used the paint product can provide valuable insights into its performance, color accuracy, durability, and overall satisfaction.
- Price and Value: Consider the price of the paint product in relation to its quality and performance. While it's important to find a paint that fits within your budget, remember that cheaper options may compromise on quality and longevity. Look for the best value for your money.
- Performance and Functionality: Consider the specific requirements of your coating project. Look for coatings that offer the desired properties such as corrosion resistance, chemical resistance, abrasion resistance, UV resistance, temperature resistance, or specific performance characteristics relevant to your application.
- Substrate Compatibility: Ensure that the coating product is compatible with the substrate you will be coating. Different coatings are designed for specific surfaces such as metal, concrete, wood, plastics, or composites. Verify that the coating adheres well to the substrate and provides proper adhesion and bonding.
- Application Method: Consider the application method that will be used (spraying, brushing, rolling, etc.). Some coatings are specifically formulated for certain application techniques, so ensure that the product is suitable for your chosen method.
- Curing and Drying Time: Depending on your project timeline and requirements, consider the curing and drying time of the coating. Some coatings may require longer drying times or additional curing processes, which could impact the overall project schedule.
- Environmental Considerations: Take into account any environmental regulations or preferences when selecting coating products. Look for coatings with low VOC content, environmentally friendly formulations, or compliance with specific environmental standards.
- Quality and Durability: Look for coatings from reputable manufacturers known for their quality and reliability. Consider the coating's resistance to weathering, durability, and long-term performance. It's beneficial to review product specifications, technical data sheets, and customer reviews to assess the coating's quality.
- Warranty and Technical Support: Check if the coating product comes with a warranty or technical support from the manufacturer. This can provide reassurance and assistance if any issues arise during or after the coating application.
- Cost and Value: Consider the price of the coating product in relation to its quality, performance, and expected lifespan. While cost is a factor, it's essential to evaluate the value and long-term benefits provided by the coating rather than solely focusing on the upfront price.
- Compliance and Certifications: Depending on your industry or specific project requirements, consider coatings that meet relevant industry standards or certifications. Examples include ISO certifications, NACE (National Association of Corrosion Engineers) standards, or FDA compliance for coatings used in food or healthcare industries.
- Customer References and Recommendations: Seek recommendations and feedback from professionals, colleagues, or trusted sources who have experience with the specific coating products you are considering. Their insights and experiences can provide valuable information on the coating's performance, application, and overall satisfaction.
