Fostering Health and Safety: Creating a Safe Work Environment

At LANXESS, Occupational Health and Safety is a top priority to create a safe and healthy working environment for all employees. Our Occupational Health Management (OHM) includes tailored initiatives such as company integration management (CIM) for long-term illnesses, mental health programs such as mindfulness-based stress reduction, and health promotion for all employees. Through the Xact Safety Initiative, we aim to reduce the Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR) by more than half by 2025. Key components of the program include:

  • Behavior-based safety at all levels
  • Strict safety protocols for service providers
  • HSE Directives to ensure compliance across all regions

Our ongoing focus is on continuous improvement of the safety culture, with initiatives that engage employees at every site.

Occupational Health and Safety

As a company in the chemicals industry, occupational health and safety is  a prerequisite for everything we do and everyday work. We are committed to ensuring that all our employees and partner company staff return home as healthy as they arrived, guided by our corporate values and anchored in our Corporate PolicyHuman Rights Position, and Code of Conduct.

Our Occupational Health Management aims to create a safe and healthy working environment, raise all employees' awareness of their own health, and motivate them to take responsibility for their own health-related behavior in their professional and private lives by

  1. evaluating the workplace conditions for each activity worldwide at the latest every three years, to identify and minimize any physical burdens and sources of undue stress
  2. also offering our employees worldwide a wide variety of measures to promote health and well-being, such as medical check-ups and stress management training, as well as mental health, fitness, wellness, nutrition-related offers and impulses for mindfulness.

GLOBAL SAFETY INITIATIVE: Xact

We address the topic of occupational safety with our global safety initiative Xact. It pursues the goal of gradually lifting the safety culture of LANXESS to a higher level. Starting with top management, all employees are expected to work together to improve safety in the Group. We are doing this because we do not want anyone to get hurt while working at LANXESS.

As a specific target for occupational safety, we aim to reduce the lost time injury frequency rate (LTIFR, known as MAQ [“accidents with lost work days per million hours worked”] in Germany) by more than half by the end of 2025 compared to the reference year of 2016 (LTIFR 2.0). The 2025 target is an MAQ ≤ 0.8 and a RIR ≤ 0.6. The work of the Xact team is focused on stabilizing and fostering a positive culture of safety and  a strong safety related mindset.

Involvement of service providers

We also want to reach an improved shared understanding of occupational safety with service providers who perform technical services for us, as well as including them in our safety culture. For instance, our partners must demonstrate that they maintain their own safety management system and have carried out all safety training that is required of all employees who work for us. Regardless of this, we provide personal safety briefings for employees of our partner companies.
