Optimized for both efficiency and selectivity
Our processes are based on two primary catalyst systems:
- Ruthenium-based (Grubbs) catalysts
- Tungsten/Molybdenum-based (Schrock) catalysts
Ru-based systems offer economic advantages but require the careful removal of ruthenium residues, for example through specialized ion exchange resins (from our sister BU LPT).
In contrast, Schrock catalysts stand out for their superior selectivity, enabling excellent product quality, though they are more cost-intensive in use.
Metathesis also plays a key role in the production of bio-based raw materials, which are further processed into specialty chemicals — including pheromones, where metathesis technology is used as a central step.
