ENVIRONMENTAL PRODUCT DECLARATIONS

FOR IRON OXIDE PIGMENTS

As the first manufacturer of synthetic iron oxide pigments LANXESS offers verified Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for its high quality Bayferrox and Colortherm grades in red, yellow and black which are produced in our production site in Germany. They provide comprehensive information on the environmental performance of these iron oxide pigments from the cradle to gate. The environmental product declarations are verified by the German Institut für Bauen und Umwelt e.V. (IBU) according to the international standard ISO 14025 as well as the European standard EN 15804. Bayferrox iron oxide pigments are used for coloring concrete building materials, paints and plastics used in the construction industry.

EPDS for Iron Oxide Pigments – how OUR customerS benefit

The publication of EPDs is an expression of our commitment to setting the highest sustainability standards in the pigment industry. Our customers benefit from this:

  • EPDs provide a credible basis for comparing the products of different raw material suppliers. Full transparency about the eco-profile of Bayferrox pigments enables a reliable evaluation. Thus, construction material manufacturers can optimize the eco-balance of their own products.
  • Raw materials with a verified EPD used in the production of building materials can positively influence their evaluation in the context of building certifications or public tenders. Use our Bayferrox EPDs to improve the life cycle assessment of your own products.

Environmental Product Declarations – all you need to know

What is an EPD?

EPDs are third-party verified and registered documents used to communicate the environmental impacts of products. Creating is a voluntary activity. The scope can vary depending on the amount of information a manufacturer wishes to disclose. The explanatory film explains the principle of sustainability certification.

Green Building

The relevance of EPDs is reflected in the increasing prevalence of building certifications. They can be used for sustainability certification, for example by the international rating systems BREEAM, LEED or DGNB. The video explains how building certification systems work and why they require life cycle assessments and EPDs with various environmental indicators.
