Reolube® Phosphate Esters

Reolube® phosphate ester-based lubricants offer the best possible resistance to ignition and combustion. They have high ignition temperatures, resist reaction with oxygen and have very low vapour pressures.

Reolube® Turbofluids

Reolube® Turbofluids are designed for use in electrohydraulic control (EHC) systems of steam turbines, but also have application in gas turbines, turbo-compressors, reactor coolant pumps and generators as well as conventional applications.

Reolube® HYD

Reolube® HYD series are colorless, odorless fire- resistant hydraulic fluids suitable for use in hydraulic equipment exposed to high temperature and high fire hazard environments such as those found in primary metals processing or mining operations.

REOLUBE® VIDEO

The video shows the technical advantages of Reolube®, as wel as the performance in the hot manifold ignition test. 

The hot manifold ignition test checks for ignition (or not) of dripping liquid onto a heated pipe manifold. It also checks for continued burning of the liquid after ignition, both for “flaming drips” from the manifold and for continued burning in a catch pan tray.

A short history of the manufacture and supply of Phosphate Esters in Trafford Park, Manchester

The Trafford Park facility opened in 1939 manufacturing phosphate-based plasticizers. In the early 1960s it started to sell phosphates to the oil industry for use as lubricating oil additives. The Reolube® HYD range was also introduced during this period. By the end of the 1960s, the phosphate esters were being sold for lubrication in gas turbines and compressors.

During the 1970s and early 1980s, Reolube® Turbofluids became the lubricant of choice for steam turbines and towards the end of the 1980’s they were being used in gas turbines. In the 1990s new hydraulic fluids were introduced for general industrial hydraulic applications. 

About the Great Lakes heritage

Up until today, some customers still refer to our Reolube® products as Great Lakes products, thanks to the enduring legacy of the Great Lakes heritage.
 
Great Lakes Chemical Company was founded in the 1930’s in Michigan, USA. McClanahan Oil Co. acquired Great Lakes Chemical Company in the renamed to Great Lakes Oil and Chemical Company. In 1999, Great Lakes Oil and Chemical Company company acquired the phosphorus business and Trafford Park, further expanding its reach and capabilities.

In 2005, Great Lakes Oil and Chemical Company joined forces with Crompton to form Chemtura, a powerful union that would shape the industry. Within Chemtura, the phosphate ester products were part of the business unit Great Lakes Solutions. When LANXESS acquired the former Chemtura business in 2017, the Reolube® phosphate esters became integrated to the business unit Lubricants and Additives.
