Swine Biosecurity
The greatest threat to the wellbeing of any creature comes from other creatures of the same species. The closer they crowd together, the greater the risk of disease.
Biosecurity for pigs (in other words excluding disease-causing organisms from the creature’s environment) is the most effective form of protection. From viruses, bacteria or fungi, disease may spread via recognized vectors of infection:
- From the animals themselves
- The people who handle them
- Contaminated food and water
- Housing and equipment
- The air itself
Advanced biosecurity solutions are an essential and effective form of protection against disease-causing pathogens such as
- African Swine Fever (ASF)
- Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD)
- Porcine Reproductive & Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS) virus
- Porcine Enteric Diarrhoea virus (PEDv)
- Salmonella
- Campylobacter
that affect swine production and productivity.
