Trainee at LANXESS
LANXESS offers various career entry opportunities for university graduates. In addition to direct entry, we offer the International LANXESS Trainee Program.
From engineering to marketing to controlling trainees - LANXESS offers opportunities in various specialist areas. There is certainly something suitable for anyone interested.
Exciting, varied tasks and projects, networking and personal support. This is exactly what LANXESS offers qualified university graduates in the Trainee Program. Over a period of 18 months, you will work in various departments and actively shape the Program with optional assignments. During the Trainee Program there is plenty of scope for orientation. You will get to know different tasks and projects during your training. In addition, you will have the opportunity to get an insight into other departments.
Through the range of assignments, you will get to know many national and international colleagues. This way you can build up a strong network. During the traineeship, you will be supported by experienced mentors who will accompany you throughout the entire training period.
Intercultural competence and an understanding of an internationally operating company are created through an allocation abroad. Through an assignment of several weeks in production, you will gain a fundamental understanding of our operations, which are the core of the company.
"I am Lena Hübbers and have been an engineering trainee in the Production, Technology, Safety & Environment (PTSE) group function since 2020.
I particularly enjoy getting to know the numerous new colleagues through the many department changes.
You get a good overview of the culture in the company and build up a large network. The highlight of my Trainee Program was my time abroad at the LANXESS Corp. headquarters in Pittsburgh, USA. There I not only worked on standardizing the safety culture, but also gained a lot of experience in American culture."

"My name is Jesco Oelker and I am a chemical engineering trainee at the Leverkusen site. I am not directly assigned to a plant, but to the Group Function, ‘Production, Technology, Safety & Environment’ (PTSE).
Within this area, I go through several departments that support production at LANXESS at different points in the life cycle of a plant. I not only get to know different facets of chemical and process engineering, but also employees from different departments. This means that I can rely on a broad network later on.
During each station, I work on my own tasks or help colleagues with their projects such as process simulation, plant planning or digitalization topics. It is important for me to take on as many different tasks and approaches as possible.
What I like about the Trainee Program is that it encourages my curiosity about working as a chemical engineer. And I am offered a framework for getting to know the company intensively and comprehensively."

"I am Pria and have been working as a marketing trainee at LANXESS since October 2021. After completing my Master's degree, I decided to join our Trainee Program so that I could also get to know other specialist areas such as controlling, supply chain management and sales. This way I can acquire interdisciplinary knowledge.
Recently, I was allowed to accompany colleagues on shift at our production site in Mannheim as part of a two-week job shadowing. This gave me a deeper understanding of the production processes and of working on shift."
Pria Singh, Trainee Marketing, LANXESS
"I am Sindy and an HR trainee at LANXESS. I made the perfect choice with this Trainee Program!
Here I have the opportunity to get to know six different HR stations where I can actively support with my knowledge and skills from university and professional life.
The centerpiece of my trainee journey so far was the three-week job shadowing at Saltigo's production facility in Leverkusen, where the employees gave me a very warm welcome. I was allowed to look over their shoulder at their daily work to better understand the work processes and environment. After six months as a trainee, I already notice that I have developed a lot, not only professionally but also personally. I am very happy to have had this experience."
Sindy Shrestha, Trainee Human Resources, LANXESS
"I am Pegah and I started my traineeship in the Material Protection Products (MPP) business unit in the Beverage Technology business line. My team has been very welcoming, supportive and trusting. The trust was shown towards my way of working and my way of approaching challenges. Moreover, I was quickly given responsibility for a variety of tasks.
That motivated me totally. In addition, you are integrated into a trainee network where you quickly make connections. We trainees also spent time together outside of work.
I am very happy to have started my work journey with LANXESS.
It worked out so well that I was able to successfully complete my traineeship early on and am now working as a product manager at LANXESS."
Pegah Jabbari Lak Product Manager MPP, LANXESS
"I'm Hannah and I'm in the final stages of my time as an engineering trainee. Over the last 1.5 years, I have been involved in various projects both in production and at headquarters: From energy management to process optimization and sustainability projects. I was able to learn a lot from experienced colleagues. But I was also able to gain experience myself in project responsibility.
The trust that was placed in me as a career starter was particularly motivating."
Hannah Gertsen, Quality Manager High Performance Materials, LANXESS
"I'm Nora and I started my engineering Trainee Program in November 2020. During the program, I had the opportunity to work in various teams and companies in the Liquid Purification Technologies (LPT) business unit. In the individual stations, I was able to support colleagues with different topics but also work on my own projects.
I was particularly impressed by the openness with which I was accepted in the teams. In addition to the assistance of my colleagues, my mentor was a great support. That's why I'm glad that the mentoring will continue after the Trainee Program ends."
Nora Grütering, Plant Engineer Liquid Purification Technologies, LANXESS
"Starting my career as a marketing trainee in the Material Protection Products (MPP) business unit was exactly the right decision for me.
Through the individually defined stations in the different areas, I had the chance to gain an insight into the business, from the purchase of raw materials to the sale of the product. This gives me a better understanding of the interrelationships of the areas.
Due to the rotations, I worked in different teams. This allowed me to quickly build up a network across locations and countries.
I found it particularly exciting to work on various M&A projects in the business unit. This involves mergers and acquisitions of companies. This experience supported my decision to continue on my path as Strategy & Integration Manager at MPP and to continue working on exciting projects.
I have grown personally, as well as professionally, during the Trainee Program and now look forward to continuing to grow in my new role."
Vivien Konetzky, Strategy & Integration Manager Material Protection Products, LANXESS
