Dr. Hans-Joachim Müller

Dr. Müller studied chemistry at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University of Munich and received his doctorate on a topic of organometallic chemistry. He also completed postdoctoral studies on III-V semiconductors at the University of California, Los Angeles, USA, as well as various management programs (including London and Wharton Business School).
Dr. Müller began his professional career in 1989 at BASF AG as a research chemist. After holding various management positions, Dr. Müller became Director of Technology and Catalysts in the Asia/Pacific region at BASF East Asia Ltd. in Hong Kong in 1996. In 2000, Dr. Müller returned to BASF AG as Global Director Specialty Chemicals.
From 2001 to 2011, Dr. Müller continued his career at Süd-Chemie AG, initially as Head of the Catalytic Technologies division. In 2007, he was appointed to the Executive Board of Süd-Chemie as COO. In the course of the takeover by Clariant AG, Dr. Müller was a member of the Executive Board there from 2011 and in this role was responsible for the integration of the acquired Süd-Chemie business and various sustainability issues, among other things.
In November 2012, Dr. Müller was appointed Chairman of the Executive Board of Azelis Group N.V. and led the company on a continuous growth path until his departure in December 2023. Dr. Müller thus has extensive, decades-long experience in the chemical industry, which he gained in various management positions in large, internationally active groups.
