Ms. Schmitz was trained as a chemical laboratory assistant at Bayer AG. From 1989 to 2009, she worked in this profession, first at Bayer AG and later at LANXESS Deutschland GmbH and Saltigo GmbH and gained vast experience concerning the production of chemical products. Since 2009, Ms. Schmitz is an exempt member of the LANXESS Works Council at the Leverkusen site. In 2011 Ms. Schmitz completed an advanced training program in change management in which, among others, she gained more in-depth knowledge in the field of digitalization processes. In 2016 she became Elected Chairwoman of the LANXESS Works Council in Leverkusen. Since 2021 she is Chairwoman of the Central Works Council, Chairwoman of the Economic Committee and Deputy Chairwoman of the Group Works Council.
