55th International Chemistry Olympiad
In preparation for this, the NRW selection with a total of 20 students took part in a state seminar from 4 to 8 February, which was sponsored by LANXESS.

The participants were offered an exciting, eventful programme. First of all, they followed in the footsteps of the Romans in Cologne under chemical questions, they faced a demanding theoretical training and got to know the Chempark Leverkusen during a plant tour, where they also had the opportunity to visit the ZeTO plant (the Central Technical Centre Organics) of the LANXESS subsidiary Saltigo.
The TH Köln opened its state-of-the-art laboratories on its new Campus Leverkusen for practical training. The synthesis of the active ingredient acetylsalicylic acid with subsequent, method-rich analysis was another highlight of the seminar.
