Our SILVADUR™ technologies provide easy to apply, durable, sustainable antimicrobial protection that helps improve freshness , support hygienic odor and freshness solutions for textiles.
Our patented silver ion polymer technology adheres to fiber surfaces to provide long-lasting antimicrobial textile protection.
When applied to fabrics, SILVADUR™ helps protect against discoloration and prolongs fabric integrity and can withstand repeated home laundering of up to 50 wash cycles in high temperatures. Apparel and home textiles containing SILVADUR™ are non-sensitizing and do not irritate skin or disrupt normal skin flora.
SILVADUR™ Certifications:
- Bluesign® approved
- Conforms with Zero Discharge of Hazardous Waste (ZDHC) Level 3
- Listed on the OEKO-TEX™ list of accepted Active Chemical Products, which makes it suitable for textiles that are to be certified under STANDARD 100
SILVADUR™ Products
- SILVADUR™ 930 Flex Antimicrobial
- SILVADUR™ 960 Flex Antimicrobial
SILVADUR™ uses a patented polymer technology to deliver silver ions via an “intelligent control” mechanism. When bacteria land on the surface of treated articles, the silver ion inactivate odor causing microorganisms, resulting in effective microbe-derived protection. SILVADUR™ binds to bacterial DNA preventing replication, causing changes to the cellular membrane so it cannot function properly.
SILVADUR™ antimicrobial technology is particle free and readily water-dilutable, forming phase stable and solids-free finishing bath solutions for easy and rapid processing of fabric when used appropriately. The product is dilutable in textile treatment baths and forms an insoluble interpenetrating polymer network with silver ions when applied to a fabric.
SILVADUR™ uses less silver than other technologies, generating less waste without compromising performance.
SILVADUR™ contained in textiles is also recyclable at the end of the textile's life and it is reusable during textile application process.
SILVADUR™ products are approved by the the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and do not contain any components listed by the State of California under the Prop 65 regulation.
SILVADUR™'s active ingredient is also notified and supported under the EU Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR) and meet REACH requirements in the European Union.
Besides these approvals, SILVADUR™ products hold several specific certifications granted after strict life cycle assessments, such as Bluesign® certification, OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 Certification and Zero Discharge ZDHC Level 3 certification.
SILVADUR™ offers light- and heat-stable application performance, durable antimicrobial protection for a wide range of textile products.
- SILVADUR™ is effective on both natural and synthetic fabrics, is compatible with a broad range of common textile additives, detergents, and other finishing treatments.
- Fabrics treated with SILVADUR™ require less heat and less time without extra binders or added steps during the application process.
- When applied to fabric surfaces and textile products, SILVADUR™ does not impact their feel or aesthetic property of the treated article.
SILVADURTM acts through three (3) modes of action to control odors:
- Odor Absorption Control: preventing the replication of bacteria which is the root cause of malodor generation by binding silver ion to bacterial DNA and, damaging cellular membrane
- Antimicrobial Odor Control: Uses low levels of silver
- Controls Metabolic Enzymes: Silver ion polymer targets enzymes, preventing production of malodors
SILVADUR™ vs. Silver Nanotechnology
- Nanoparticle-based silver products rely on silver metal particles that don’t easily dissolve in water, providing a less uniform finish
SILVADUR™ vs. Silver Chloride & Particle Based Systems
- Traditional silver-based antimicrobials deliver silver particles to the fabric surface & rely on silver particle leaching or slow dissolution of poorly-soluble silver salts to control bacteria.
- Silver particulate size and indiscriminate release of silver can cause discoloration & reduced antimicrobial performance over time, causing a non-uniform antimicrobial finish during the manufacturing process, leading to higher cost-to-treat & poor quality.
SILVADUR™ vs. Quat Silanes
- Quat Silanes can be difficult to control, require careful dilution, formulation & processing conditions.
- Quat Silane treated fabrics can become water repellant, requiring more chemicals & costs to control hydrophobicity.
