Food - too precious to waste
Who hasn't been there? You have cooked something and completely overestimated how much you could eat. If you also don't live with a lot of people or your kids want to eat the same dish for days on end, what happens is something that has certainly happened to all of us at some point: the food ends up in the trash.
Millions of tons of food end up in the waste every year. In Germany alone, about 11 million tonnes of food are wasted every year, that's 200 grams per person per day and 78 kilograms per year. Globally, the picture does not look much different; 931 million tons of food were thrown away in 2021.

Inside LANXESS editor Kerstin Stenger gives advice on how to prevent food waste in your own household. How do you store food properly to ensure the longest minimum shelf life? Or is food inedible after the best-before date? Following important measures against food waste not only makes a valuable contribution to the environment and the conservation of resources, but also saves costs and sets an example against careless consumption. Kerstin Stenger also reports on the role that LANXESS plays in this. Our products in the food sector play their part in the responsible and careful use of resources.
