Responsibility for our planet: On the 1.5 degree path
A sustainable approach to our environment is the key to a future worth living. That is why we are consistently aligning our climate strategy with the 1.5 degree target - validated by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi). We are not only reducing our direct emissions, but also optimizing our entire value chain in order to minimize our ecological footprint in the long term.
But climate protection is more than just emissions. We rely on:
- sustainable processes,
- innovative technologies
- and the responsible use of resources
- from reducing our water consumption to the efficient recycling of materials. This is how we ensure that our growth is in harmony with our planet.
Protecting the Blue Gold: Our Commitment to Sustainable Water Management
At LANXESS, we recognize water as a vital resource and are committed to responsible management. Through our global Water Program, we aim to reduce water consumption at high-risk sites and contribute to the UN’s SDG 6 on clean water and sanitation. By optimizing water use at sites like Jhagadia and Latina, we've exceeded our water reduction targets, cutting withdrawals by 31%.
We also lead in sustainable water treatment with innovations like ion exchange resins made from renewable raw materials, helping industries reduce their environmental impact and enhance water reuse.
Maximising resource efficiency and minimising waste
LANXESS is committed to sustainable logistics and waste management to increase resource efficiency. By shifting transport from road to intermodal transport, optimising transport routes and selecting certified, environmentally friendly logistics partners, we reduce transport emissions while ensuring safety and efficiency.
In addition, we minimise the amount of waste we generate through consistent material flow management, recycling by-products within our network and promoting energy efficiency projects. In this way, we decouple business growth from resource consumption.
Safety in transport and operation
The safe transportation of hazardous goods is a top priority at LANXESS. A global management system minimizes risks. Central classification ensures compliance with international and regional regulations and defines safe packaging, labeling and transport routes. Safety data is stored centrally, enabling uniform application of standards.
Beyond transportation, we adhere to strict environmental, quality and energy management standards. With regular audits, digitized processes and uniform plant safety protocols, we systematically prevent accidents and increase operational safety.
