Climate Leadership

We aim to achieve climate neutrality in our operations by 2040 and across our value chain by 2050, aligned with the 1.5-degree pathway. With that, we also drive down value chain emissions of our customers.

Our mission: climate neutrality in our operations by 2040

Climate change is one of the greatest challenges of our time - and we are facing up to our responsibility. We aim to be climate neutral by 2040.

To achieve this, we are relying on innovative technologies, the expansion of renewable energies and a clear emissions reduction strategy.

Our methods to successfully do this:
  1. neutralize climate-damaging gases,
  2. optimize our energy supply,
  3. and rely on highly efficient combined heat and power generation.
We are also phasing out coal and investing in climate-friendly production processes. With targeted measures and a strong sustainability program, we are shaping a green future.

Clear Strategy to lower emissions

From production to product: climate neutrality along the entire chain

Climate neutrality requires a holistic approach, which is why we are not only optimizing our own processes but also making our supply chain more sustainable. Through our Net Zero Value Chain Program, we are reducing Scope 3 emissions by

  • increasing our use of renewable and recycled raw materials,
  • optimizing low-carbon logistics,
  • and expanding our range of climate-neutral products.

We are also integrating emissions trading as a management tool and driving climate-friendly innovation across all sectors. In this way, we are creating a value chain that reconciles growth and climate protection.

Climate protection needs cooperation: strong alliances for big goals

Achieving climate neutrality along the entire value chain requires strong alliances. That is why we are committed to working closely with the scientific, business and political communities. Our climate targets are verified by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) and are based on the 1.5°C pathway of the Paris Agreement.

But ambitious targets require a reliable framework. We are committed to fair energy prices, efficient emissions trading systems and fast-track permitting. Together with strong partners, we are developing innovative solutions that reconcile business and climate protection.
